Girl Talk Coming To YOUR Town

Posted Friday, January 09, 2009 @ 10:42 in Music by Joshua Glazer

That's assuming that your town is Omaha, NE, Little Rock, AK or Saint Augustine, FL, where the gold medal mash-up champion will be playing the Harvest of Hope. It's hard not to make a little bit of fun, but it's cool that someone is finally getting to the kids who live in those third, fourth and fifth tier metro areas. And apparently supportingmigrant farmers in the process. Good deed Girl Talk.

All dates after the jump

LA Times: One Night With Prince

Posted Friday, January 09, 2009 @ 10:17 in Music by Skinny B

Venerable music journalist and LA Times scribe Ann Powers caught up with the mysterious purple people eater and no subject was off the record.

It was 11 p.m. on the night before New Year's Eve, and I was doing something I hadn't expected would crown my 2008: sitting in Prince's limousine as the legend lounged beside me, playing unreleased tracks on the stereo. "This is my car for Minneapolis," he said before excusing himself to let me judge a few songs in private. "It's great for listening to music." He laughed. "I don't do drugs or I'd give you a joint. That's what this record is."

Posted Friday, January 09, 2009 @ 10:08 in Culture by Joshua Glazer

Did Carson Daly really refer to Eminem as the "Jackie Robinson" of white rappers? He sure did when interviewing Asher Roth the same day that Roth (not really) foiled a bomb threat on his flight to LA.

Bats For Lashes Announces New Album

Posted Friday, January 09, 2009 @ 09:51 in Music by Joshua Glazer

Bats For Lashes—whose Bjork meets Ronnie Spector style impressed critics world wide on her 2007 debut Fur and Gold—returns in 2009 with her second album, Two Suns, on April 6th. Th album features contributions from enigmatic downer Scott Walker, indie fave Yeasayer and her touring band The Blue Dreams. Such partnerships, and descriptions of the record as "further enhances this idea of dualities in its music, mixing autoharps with intense electronics, complex drum rhythms with lush keyboards and strings." means you can expect more of the dark pop we enjoyed on her previous effort.

"Notorious" Film Review

Posted Friday, January 09, 2009 @ 09:40 in Culture by Nokware Knight

Notorious is thankfully light on sensationalism, instead giving the audience its kicks through one catch-phrase-full intense scene after the other. The film won't win any awards, but all around solid acting, constant action that feeds off of interaction between characters, arm's length camera shots, and a story line that focuses on life outside of tabloids, studio sessions, and photo shoots makes it worth a $10 trip to the movies...
