Johnny Dangerous: If Peaches and Mickey Avalon mated :: Questions and Answers with America's first filthy gay rapper

By Jen Boyles

10/30/08 :: URB web

If Peaches and Mickey Avalon mated, the resulting foul-mouthed offspring would probably be something like Johnny Dangerous, a Chicago-based hip-hop artist who claims he's America's first filthy gay rapper. Johnny recently came out with sophomore album "White Hot" -- several years after making waves on LOGO and appearing in the pages of URB for the first time.  The words "gay rapper" leave a lot of questions in people's minds these days, so we decided to throw a few at him and see just how dangerous Dangerous gets.

URB: What's the most vulgar thing you've ever said on a track?
JD: God, I don't think there's enough Internet free-space to fit all of those dirty rhymes into, LOL.  But, one of my most absolute FAVORITE-IST lines is "And oh he fucks, dug deep in the guts, then he pulled his dick out and sucked the nut out my butt!"  That's from "Take Your Man," and that line is a straight-up classic! Fo' real.

URB: Wow. *cough* OK.  So if the 1st amendment was suddenly repealed, what would you rap about?

JD: Getting the dirty shit back!  Jesus, what the fuck would I rap about?  I'd probably still say all of the same dirty stuff, but maybe I'd just make funny sound effects with my voice where I'd normally curse... I do have a few radio-friendly joints on the album though... C'mon, I'm not THAT dirty... regardless what happens, Johnny will NEVER be silenced!  Trust!

URB: When did you come out and what do you remember about that moment?
JD: After coming out at 20, I remember my life really beginning.  I just remember how freeing it was to really be myself.  I suddenly had no inhibitions or fears -- I felt invincible...  besides the occasional Chlamydia scare.  They make pills for that though, don't they?

URB: What is the most challenging thing about being Johnny Dangerous?
Living up to the hype about being this man-hungry over-sexualized beast in and out of the bedroom.  Sure I'm ruthless, reckless AND Dangerous, but Johnny needs love too...

URB: What's the craziest thing that's ever happened to you at or after a show?
JD: Getting cornered by a group of bears... Not real bears, but the older, beefy hairy guys in the gay community.  I think I was in Denver, and after my show about eight to ten dudes bum rushed, swarmed and insisted that I let them take me to the local bathhouse.  They were totally turned on by my dirty lyrics, and assumed I'd be down for a gigantic sex party ... After being coy for what felt to be an hour, they finally gave up.  Sure I love sex, but I'm still a picky bitch. I'm not used to being the prey -- that takes away the excitement of the challenge!

URB:  You could have just told them you have a boyfriend.
Yeah. We've been together for years now and he supports all of my raunchy, dirty lyrics...  He's kind of a prude though, and sometimes he gets shocked and is like "I can't believe you just said THAT!  You're soooo bad!"
