Jason Bentley: KCRW's New Music Director

Over the weekend, video footage of the Roots' ?uestlove discussing his band's plans to retire from large-scale touring and succeed the Max Weinberg 7 as the new "Late Night" house band were posted online and subsequently removed. The Roots have allegedly been tapped to bring their funked up indie hip-hop to the new Jimmy Fallon-hosted incarnation of the talk show franchise, presumably to fill the long, uncomfortable silences following every failed joke that the Taxi star cracks.
According to MTVNews.com, ?uestlove attributes the decision to his bandmembers' increasing need to spend time with their respective families, as well the drummer's own desire to find a woman to settle down with, something he considers impossible when continually touring. "I see the possible chance of this being a 'bigger' move ... but on the real? I don't know if I want to be 40, on the road and single no more. And with the kids my group has now getting older ... it's harder for the guys to leave more than it was when the kids were 2 and 3. And I can't even start to go on that path till a woman takes me seriously. And ain't no one taking a man serious who is in his own home for only three months out the year," he said.
The Roots and their label's representatives have yet to offer any comment.
