Jason Bentley: KCRW's New Music Director
With radio so muddled down these days with sappy love songs and hipster dance tunes, it's nice to hear a little rebelliousness every now and then. The four-man Brooklyn band, The So So Glos, have been starting mosh pit fights worldwide with their own fusion of tropical punk rock. From the jump it’s clear The So So Glos are a product of punk music’s long lineage of bastard sounds and malevolent intentions. The aptly titled “Throw Your Hands Up” is an ode to the cantankerous soul in all of us. It’s inspiring immorality at its best. Shouts of “Throw me through a ghetto blaster!” and “Come on, let's go war on the radio!” probably won’t get the group any time on the airwaves, but who cares. Their debut album, Tourism/Terrorism released on Nov. 4—features nine songs and 27 minutes of extra-dirty revolver rock. Their brandished enthusiasm is a welcomed addition to the fray. Translation: “Fuck the FCC!” How sweet the sound.
