Jason Bentley: KCRW's New Music Director
Rodney “Rocky Fontaine” Myers is determined. And these days that should count for a lot. Long heralded as the city of the “legendary” Roots crew, neo-soul sensation Jill Scott, the original pitbull in lipstick, Eve, and the now defunct junkyard gang-esque group State Property, rap newcomer Rocky Fontaine is ready to carry Philly back to the promised land. With a heavy amount of street cred, six mixtapes and considerable buzz on the blogosphere, the burgeoning star—nicknamed “The Comeback Kid—is making sure he gets more than his 15 minutes of fame. Accompanied by Maino (of the ubiquitous “Hi, Hater” anthem) and the fellow Philly rhymester Gillie Da Kid, Rocky’s “Best in the City” track gives him more than a fighting chance. Who says persistence doesn’t pay off?
